Mountain Research, is seeking an experienced professional to join our team in Altoona, PA.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology or a closely related scientific field.
- Prospective applicants should have a minimum of 5 years staff level experience in environmental site assessments, site characterizations, subsurface investigations, PA Brownfield work, underground / above ground storage tank work, groundwater/soil sampling collection, remediation systems, hydrogeological investigations and groundwater development, and report writing in all the above.
- Proficiency with navigating Title 25 Chapter 250 and 245 regulation for site assessment and remediation, PADEP Management of Fill Policy, PFOA and PFOS regulations and/or Phase I ESA ASTM Standards.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or with limited supervision and self-manage their work and schedules.
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional licenses and/or certifications.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience in preparing and managing project budgets.
Responsibilities:
This position is 80 % office-based work and 20 % field based work. Field duties include supervising and assisting with (if needed) hydrogeological investigations, environmental site assessments, underground storage tank projects, sinkhole investigations, spill response, geotechnical studies, and project meetings with regulators, clients, and/or contractors. Office work includes project coordination/planning, project scheduling, data management/interpretation, staff mentoring/development, technical report writing, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including scientists, engineers, and regulatory specialists, present technical findings to clients and regulators, monitor project progress, quality standards, and financial performance. Project manager will ensure all activities comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations. At times, project manager will assist business development teams with leads, site walks, and proposal/bid development.

Mountain Research, is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Driller to join our team in Altoona, PA.
This is a field-based position with the majority of work performed outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme conditions (hot/cold, wet/dry). The role requires frequent overnight travel Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work. Candidates must be comfortable with moderate levels of driving and the physical demands of the position, including:
- Occasional lifting of 75+ pounds
- Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds
- Regular standing, bending, and reaching
Work is often performed around heavy equipment and industrial process areas, requiring tolerance of moderate to high noise levels. Mountain Research provides all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which must be worn to ensure employee safety.
All candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
Responsibilities:

- Operation drill rig(s) and oversight of drilling operations for auger borings, standard penetration test (SPT) sampling, rock coring, monitoring well installations, infiltration testing and other types of drilling, as required.

- Supervision and mentoring of drilling assistant on the drilling site.

Qualifications and Skills
Valid PA Class C driver’s License (CDL Class A or B a Plus)
Education: High School degree or equivalent
Clean Driving Record
Experience: 2+ years geotechnical drilling; heavy equipment operations and working with PennDot inspectors preferred.
Skills: Relevant geotechnical drilling/operating experience. Demonstrated by operating track mounted drill rigs for geotechnical/exploration sampling including coring; hollow and solid-stem augering; split-spoon sampling; etc.
Use smartphone and computer to complete daily electronic tasks.
Mechanical ability, including electrical, plumbing and / or heavy equipment operation, a plus.

We are currently seeking a motivated, self-starting individual to join our team as a Full-Time Environmental Technician. This is an entry-level opportunity ideal for recent graduates with a Bachelor of Science degree in a scientific discipline such as Environmental Science, Geology, Biology, or a related field.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform groundwater and soil sampling collection, geological/hydrogeological investigations, remediation system operations and maintenance, assistance/logging during environmental drilling operations, environmental site assessments, etc. Some overnight travel is required. Ability to tolerate all weather conditions (hot/cold, wet/dry, windy, etc). Care and maintenance of company equipment.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field (e.g., Geology, Environmental Science, Biology)

The candidate will need to have full day/s available to be able to go to job sites and a large block of time is needed.
